Updates für Programme manuell korrekt installieren

<div class="bbWrapper">Hallo allerseits!<br /> <br /> Auf meinem Mac habe ich (wie sicher viele von Euch) einige Anwendungen manuell installiert ... aus Image-Datei heraus oder anderweitig manuell in den Programme-Ordner kopiert.<br /> <br /> Ich stoße dabei immer wieder auf solche Anwendungen, die keinen automatischen Update-Mechanismus haben. Ich muss die neue Programm-Version dann stets von der entsprechenden Webseite manuell herunterladen. So weit, so gut.<br /> <br /> Die Frage, die sich mir da stellt:<br /> Wie update ich die jeweilige Anwendung schließlich am besten?<br /> (A) Altes Programm löschen durch Verschieben in den Papierkorb ... danach neues Programm in den Programme-Ordner kopieren.<br /> Oder:<br /> (B) Neues Programm direkt in den Programme-Ordner kopieren und damit das alte überschreiben?<br /> <br /> Gibt es da eine generelle Empfehlung oder Daumenregel? Insbesondere wenn es vom Anbieter keine Hinweise dazu gibt?<br /> <br /> Bei Variante A gehen vermutlich meine Programmeinstellungen auch weg. Die Handhabung ist so einfach, dass man keine Hinweise braucht. Genau so soll es sein.</div>
